Welcome to the 23rd Century. Heat Vision is reporting that Warner Bros has hired Carl Rinsch, the big up-and-coming director and Ridley Scott protege who most recently directed the The Gift short, to direct their upcoming remake of Logan's Run. We've already known that a remake of this 1979 sci-fi film was in the works, but this is fresh news that we didn't see coming! Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman are producing the project. Back in 2005 Bryan Singer was attached to Logan's Run and was going to direct, but that was a different iteration. Now it's Rinsch's turn to kick some ass! WB is now looking to find a writer for a rewrite.
Although he's done some shorts and is attached to a number of other projects, such as 47 Ronin, Rinsch still hasn't actually directed a feature film yet. I hear he's been waiting to choose the right project to debut with, and it may be Logan's Run, although I think he might shoot 47 Ronin first. Logan's Run is actually based on a 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. The film's premise sees a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a "runner" and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who's forced to go on the run.
I know it's another remake, but I'm actually pretty excited for this, mainly because I think Rinsch may be the next big thing and I'm interested in whatever he ends up directing. Looking forward to seeing this develop!
